Kaon identification in the NA62 experiment at CERN

چکیده

The main purpose of the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is to measure the Branching Ratio of the ultra-rare kaon decay K+ → π+νν̄ with 10% accuracy. This will be achieved by collecting about 100 events with a Signal to Background ratio of 10/1. NA62 will use a 75 GeV/c unseparated charged hadron beam and a kaon decay-in-flight technique. For the kaon identification a hydrogen gas-filled differential Cherenkov counter (CEDAR) is placed in the incoming beam. The CEDAR detector is required to achieve a kaon identification efficiency of at least 95% with a time resolution of about 100 ps.

Rare Kaon Decays at CERN SPS

Since their discovery the K-mesons continue to provide valuable information to the theory of the interactions between the elementary particles. In two years of data taking the NA48/2 experiment at CERN SPS recorded more than 4 billion K± → π+π−π± decays devoted to the search of CP violation in the charged kaon system. The huge statistics allows also a precise study of rare kaon decays. The resu...

A detector for the measurement of the ultrarare decay K→ πνν̄: NA62 at the CERN SPS

The NA62 experiment at CERN aims at the very challenging task of measuring with 10% relative error the Branching Ratio of the ultra-rare decay of the K+ into π+νν̄ , which is expected to occur only in about 8 out of 1011 Kaon decays. This will be achieved by means of an intense hadron beam, an accurate kinematical reconstruction and a redundant veto system for identifying and suppressing all spu...

Recent results of the NA48/2 experiment

The NA48/2 experiment at CERN SPS has collected the world largest amount of charged kaon decays. During two runs in 2003 and 2004, with about 60 days of effective running each, about 18·109 events were recorded in total. The main goal of NA48/2 was the search for direct CP violation in K± decays into three pions. However, given the high statistics achieved, many other physics topics were also c...

New Directions in Kaon Physics

Recent measurements of kaon decays provide new information about CKM unitarity, lepton universality, and discrete symmetries. KLOE-2, the proposed extension of the kaon physics program at Frascati, will extend the world data set on kaon decays and conduct interference measurements with neutral kaons. Meanwhile, the decays K → πνν̄ can be directly related to the CKM matrix elements with minimal t...

Chiral Perturbation Theory tests at NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN

Final results from an analysis of about 400 K± → π±γγ rare decay candidates collected by the NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN during low intensity runs with minimum bias trigger configurations are presented. The results include a model-independent decay rate measurement and fits to Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) descriptions. The data support the ChPT prediction for a cusp in the di-photo...
